The chicken stalks the worm, unaware of the fox behind. You're all up to date on you classic Chinese proverbs, right?

In a chicken-based fantasy adventure it really only makes sense to use foxes as the equivalent of dragons. They even come in a variety of colors.

Shining Eyes – June 2024 Wallpaper

In search of a creepy horror movie vibe I ended up in a more minimalist design than I originally intended. The shining yellow eyes of the demon chicken emerge from behind the slowly opening red doors.

Big Air 2

There were questions about the flightless bird's fate, so let's continue her adventure.

The last chicken the airborne hen would encounter on her journey through the sky was a ravishing rooster parachuting down from a tragic accident. Their encounter just moment as she pierced through the cloud and their eyes met. From there it was a path to the stars.

Synchronized

As the orange does up the yellow goes down, in an endless synchronized spin. Within the narrow vision this achievement is the only thing between the shining birds and the endless darkness.
 

Big Air

Boom! The explosion blew the flightless bird into the sky. As the fowl passed a cloud it felt a satisfaction. Some of the biggest air a chicken had ever gotten.

 

Egg-like Eyes

As the two eggs sizzled in skillet the cook was deep in though, thinking of the mother hen that laid this eggs, never once considering they would become part of a nutritious breakfast.

Don't Fade Away

It's sad to look at a site or comic you used to visit all the time and see that same last post from six years ago. The content eventually sputters out and without a word it eventually just stops one day. I'm just feeling a bit nostalgic and I went to a few sites I used to visit that left without any fanfare, just a final post that obviously wasn't intended to be one. 

I'm not shutting down this website any time soon, but when I inevitably do... No fading away. I'm leaving dramatically. Probably on April Fools, just in case I regret my decision.

Guest Chicken

Enjoy this lovely guest chicken from one of my coworkers. It has most of the important chicken details, like beak, eye, cool leather jacket, and comb.

As it was done with a dry erase marker instead of MS Paint I'm not even sure where to start on my critique. Lacks a wattle, but a great attempt. Kind of like the eye shape

Golden Glow

As usual the perfectly fried chicken basked in a golden glow... But why was this one still moving and not even plucked?

Cliff End

Sometimes you have your back to a cliff. Will you face the blades or will you jump at the fraction of a chance? Actually getting stabbed might be safer than jumping off a cliff... Just don't give up.

Fishing

The chicken has been fishing for hours. Why hadn't it managed to catch a fish yet? There wasn't even a bite. 

It certainly didn't help that the chicken had eaten all the worms.

Dark Reflection – July 2024 Wallpaper

For this month's wallpaper we've accepted a theme of metaphorical reflection, which is why I drew mirrored copies of the same chicken, one a bright and colorful happy facade and the other monochrome so it's dark and brooding.

Anything is a Chicken

With my well-honed mind any random set of shapes and blobs is a chicken... Though that top right one is quite the stretch. It might actually not be a chicken no matter how I twist my head.

Maybe I should have locked in on that having a schedule idea, even if I don't strictly stick to it.

Blocky – June 2024 Wallpaper

I hate fake pixels. That is to say if you're going for that old video game look you should just actually make all of your pixels the same size and draw them on a grid. they shouldn't get bigger or scale or skew...

This is kind of that through. This is a chicken make of inconsistently sized blocks in a way that kind of upsets me. His blue sky world is being eroded by the purple-black darkness. It's not a metaphor. This is just moving into more of a weird horror video space.

Head in the Clouds

Sometimes my imagination is just a wild place to be. You shouldn't do it all the time, but there's nothing wrong with having your head in the clouds for while.

Popping

Coming right at you like an exploding balloon we got a chicken from out of this world. Alien? Robot? Cartoon man? No, of course not. It was purely metaphorical.

Mountain Vacation

I had a nice vacation in the American West. Mountains are beautiful, but it feels weird not to see the horizon when I look out in the distance.

I assumed I would have more time doing nothing and would naturally have the chance to make a chicken, but I was mistaken. Satisfying vacation, but I should have made this post on Thursday if I'm trying to have a schedule...

Maybe this is just the reveal of a new villain? Or just a dark and brooding friend.

Strange Smell

As you enter the room you're struck by a strange smell. Is it something in the trash? Spilled cleaning supplies? The dinner you were invited to?

 Really no way to know.

Zap

Zap Lightning, the fastest chicken in the world. After a terrible bug zapper accident Zap found himself with the ability to move like lightning and cook tasty bugs in an instant.

I told the Patreon folks already, but this month I'm going to be posting every Monday and Thursday and try out maintaining a regular schedule. 

You may have noticed that's it's Tuesday. I scheduled this wrong and forgot to check, but the rest of the month should be smoother.

Awaken – May 2024 Wallpaper

Everyone has seen the old cartoons. We know what the rooster's job is. It's to wake you up at the crack of dawn with a powerful crow, but what makes it awaken? It's still night, but the rooster's eye is wide open.

I used to do quite a bit of classic fantasy chickens, but it's been a while. Anyways here's a big with one of those beak helmets. It's a bit awkward to get on when you already have a beak.

Little Birdy

A little birdy told me your secret, so you may as well just admit it so I can use it to blackmail you later. Feel free to let me know if you stole money from a shady businessman or stabbed a man in cold blood.

I don't really want to know about anything more mundane or illicit.

Really?

You might say, "This is supposed to be a chicken? Really?"

And to that I say "I'm kind of settled into this way of stylizing things, but yeah. Almost everything on this site is supposed to be a chicken."

Hopefully the conversation ends there, because I don't have many more follow-up comments.

This one is sad. You can tell from the eyebrows that chickens don't have.

Start the month off with a hat. It's got a good shape with a blown up brim.

Egg Ghost

The egg yolk took shape as the fowl spirit was roused and a ghastly sizzle came up from the frying pan.

This was simply the daily breakfast experience when you were a ghost hunting farmer. 

Blueprint

The world is made to match the plans that are laid, but between the idea and the reality things never quite match up. Able to instantly recall these half realized plans the goggle-clad fowl saw a path for escape. Otherwise he was bound to be someone's dinner before too long.

This may be more on the "string of nonsense" end but I think I need to get back to wandering rambles so that's good.

Twisted Aura

The psychic detective didn't know what to do. For many years he had relied on his unique gift to solve countless crimes, but this time was different. The twisted aura of the bird was worse than any serial killer. But it couldn't have been responsible for the recent string of violent robberies, unless–!

No Fear

The bird walked through the desolate plain without fear. It's easy to ignore all threats when one doesn't have any thoughts. Even the terrifying serpent was frustrated by the chicken's nonchalance.

Barnyard

We don't need to be limited to just chickens. I can draw the whole range of barnyard critters, from chicken to pig. Maybe even duck? Cow is a bit large but I've done it before.

Of course you've already seen through this April Fool's jape. We need to include a chicken or it isn't Chicken Maker at all.

15 Years of Chicken Maker

Fifteen feels like possibly too many years of Chicken Maker, but we'll just keep it rolling.

This year I didn't do much that I would call particularly interesting. I didn't make a lovely pamphlet. I didn't follow through on making a GameBoy game. Just kind of coasting by and making fun chickens when they cross my mind. I guess I also played with TikTok for a bit. I did post more than 100 chickens though, despite feeling like I don't post enough.

Green version of the tiktok border I made last time I made those.

Anyways it's St. Patrick's Day so let's get into our anniversary Green Chickens. These are some of my favorites from the past year.

Lime green is not an Artisanal color. Very processed
