Happy 2012 Friends

This not particularly enthusiastic chicken is here to wish you a Happy New Year. I resolve, here and now, with regards to this site, that I will post more next year than I did this year. I mean I barely managed 200 posts this year.

Decided this would be better as the last post of 2011 then the first post of 2012. Even used the fancy scheduling functions to set it to post in the final minute. But, given my intent I'll probably post somethign tomorrow too.

I'm sorry. This issue took nearly nine months to come out.  The next, and final, issue will be posted in a more timely manner. Enjoy the battle between the Rookie and the King.

House Puzzle

Four chickens lived in four houses on a street.

RON has only one next door neighbor
CON is right of JON, but not next door
DON is right of RON

Felt like making a puzzle. Not a particularly hard one I'll admit. Highlight below for answer.

This is the number 9. Because transparency is fun. He's just handing out and relaxing in the round part of the 9. And yeah... I decided against the upside-down 6 style 9. I like the distinct parts.

XMAS 2011

Sorry. It's a tad overlarge. Click for the full sized one.
I nearly missed Christmas all together.

Santa Chicken hovers beside the Christmas tree covered in chicken ornaments. Just a whole mess of generic scribbled together chickens for the fun of it. Even features ole' Politichicken. The Red White and Blue Bird of Patriotism, cause drawing realistic colors all the time is boring.

These Potential Chickens Died On Your Farmer's Face Last night by MercuryCrest

Sorry, couldn't resist the tagline.
I haven't used MS Paint in 15 years, but this blog has inspired me.
The attached is my version of "SuperChicken"...mainly because I eat them constantly....

Yes. eggs are indeed potential chickens. interesting use of colors, though it is rather inconsistent. I mean brown is the outline of the white, but black is the outline of the yellow. Of course you saved it in Bitmap which is lossless(which is good) but bad for the internet(which is why I resaved it in PNG) Also this picture was pointlessly large in resolution and surrounded by more white space than I like to see.

No real problems with it, though I don't care for large single pixel outlines.

New Projects Header

I decided the Project Page needed some freshening up, and you know, a fair number of updates.  And, well, as first I was just gonna update it or maybe reformat it a bit, but I decided to give it a new page image. Also, I think I'm redesigning the site to breath some new life into it. Don't worry. I won't pull anything too crazy. It'll still be basically the same... But who knows. I might just be going wild with it.

As for the fact that I straight pasted Shades in... Shades is still a great piece and I never redraw him anywhere else. That's practically the point of Shades McCoolguy

The monochromatic dichotomy of this image gives distinct borders to the image, while the shared understated background helps to lend a sense of mystique to the form in the foreground.

Looking Fowl: Eye of Weakness

There was a chicken with a Looking Eye, the Eye of Weakness. Once ones eyes met them they could never look away and all strength in their body would simply drain away. They were at the mercy of the fowl or any passer-by who might avert the bird's eyes.

A guard passing through the woods can find many things, as this one did today. A hen was roosting int he middle of the path. Normally he'd pay it no mind. Step around it or kick it aside, but today the man lowered himself down to move the bird out of the way. He was truly a generous sort on this occasion.

Unfortunately for him this bird was not sitting there randomly. The guard had fallen into a thief's foul trap. As he grasped the bird it's eyes opened and the guard collapsed, his eyes locked on the bird. Mere moments later a man took the bird from his feeble grip. Soon this man would have all of the guards things, and the guard would draw his last breath.

But, a small mercy saved the guard. The bird turned it's head and met the eyes of the thief. As the hen looked away from the guard his strength flooded back, and the thief quickly collapsed. The guard's boot brought an early end to the thief's career, crushing his hand. Uncertainly he lifted the bird under one arm, and took the thief in the other.

On that day the bird was a hero who had helped with catching the thief.

Forever Yours

I bought most of the versions of Alex Day's Forever Yours(currently #4 in the UK charts) And for that I got the badge here. And since I got that I figured I'd better do a chicken version of it as an excuse to post it up on here. Understood? Over and Out

Chi Ken

The energy of the sword swells up where the blade was planted into the ground, forcing away any unworthy soul who would dare to grasp it. The blade never left its owners hand until the man grew too old to fight, even with his mighty blade. But someday one would dare to grasp it, and if he was worthy he would draw the blade out from the earth it laid in and create a new legend.

And check out that Gratuitous Japanese title. I mean. The bad pun was the whole point really. Cause you know Chi is like inner energy or whatever. And Ken is Japanese for Sword. And together it looks like Chicken. Anyways that's not really an at all correct way to write that. I mean even doing just word for word that's backwards cause I wanted to say the sword energy, not the energy sword. Anyways. This is just a bad pun and you like those.

chicken with flying nun hat.

A nun habit with wings on it is almost definitely what the challenger was asking for when they requested this image. I am absolutely 100% certain that they meant this and not a chicken wearing a white cornette. You all agree, right?

Chicken Little

Pretty sure that's the plot of Chicken Little

Shaded Shades

This is a black and white image created to give an impression of a chicken wearing sunglasses. This sort of semi-silhouette lets this piece stand out in the site. Has nothing to do with the other shades.

Ghost Shooter 2

It's a thrilling image of ghost shooter and his dog(sic) surrounded by all manner of spirits.

Ghost Shooter and Dog(sic)

I'm sorry. I haven't posted anything in more than a week. But I'm not dead... Unlike the ghosts in today's series of posts.

The ghost shooter and his trusty dog(sic) shoot ghosts.

It's exactly what it sounds like, except the dog is a chicken. I'll be posting some more for it today.

Fake Cran

Cray-on. I dunno about you, but when I was a kid I always just said "crans." So anyways I scribbled something up with the current Paint's fake crayon tool thing. Reversed some letters to make it look like a kid did it.

Over Bright

This chicken remains bright despite he dark world it lives in. He's got a nice slick look.

I think the pair of these two works pretty well.

Over Dark

This chicken is unnecessarily dark in the bright and cheerful world he lives in. He also has some way cool eyebrows.
November 29, 2011

This is a useful tool, in that it's just the old paint. I had forgotten how many features I took for granted were added in the Vista version I admit, but nothing that I need. Just some things that simplify processes, like crop.

Anyways. This fellow's got a nice cloak, with a gold clasp.

Love protects from the darkness. And darkness is purple, but I think we all already know that, don't we?

I couldn't think of a good excuse to draw one of these swirly hearts so this is what you're getting.
November 24, 2011

Standing with his back to his field, a grey chicken watched as the dark day arrived. Swarms of turkeys strode through the open field outside his land. As he battled the endless Turkey forces one thing was clear to the grey chicken blocking their path... Today, no one would be without a turkey on their plate.

Happy Thanksgiving

The site's revival seems to have finally reached frutation after these last few rather light months. We've got three in one day. And with this one I've included a Making Of video. I tried to do one of those ages ago, but it didn't work. This one did though. Enjoy. I purposely cut back on my normal use of keyboard short cuts so you could actually see what I was doing so my use of menus was a bit awkward.

The 7 is displayed via a 7 segment display. I know it's not particularly clever but leaving that aside I liked the idea. It was going to be red, because I like red LEDs, but the comb is red so that was out.

Six. Many mistake it for a bad thing. Somehow Satanic and evil. But 6 is a good number, because 6 is the number of man, and mankind is a rare thing that both creates and destroys. But this site is about doodles of chickens, not about man or introspective thoughts. That's why the chicken is a hole.

Real Art

I was chit chatting, and moved to the topic of how real art tends to have some sort of sexual undertone or the like. I worried for a moment that that obviously meant this stuff wasn't art, since this is a family friendly site with none of that sort of stuff, but most of what I draw for this site is... cocks.

I'm sorry.

Man of Fortune

A Soldier of Fortune, except he's not a soldier. He's just a man. And really he's just a chicken. Though, he is of course a real hero. A manly hero who can set things right without starting a fight.

I added a donation button, which actually turned out to be a real pain. So, it might not stick around. I figured I may as well do it through Google since the rest of the everything is done through Google, but eh... Maybe not the best plan. Especially since it doesn't seem to work. Overall being a Google Checkout Merchant is more work than it's worth. But in 3-5 Business days I should have it in working order.(I appear to have just needed to prod it a bit or maybe it is still broken. Anyways help me toward my annual goal of 10 dollars)

I should specify that I don't really need any money and am more than willing to dip into my own pocket for that 10 dollars. And I more stuck that button here because I figured, eh why not?

With a flash the ball-like hero arrives on the scene. No one could mistake him for anything but a hero with his chicken-like color scheme. He'd show the villain what for with a sharp one-two punch

Side Show

This chicken shows up from the side.
November 10, 2011

I'm sorry, having a computer that can do things well distracted me from all of my important business, running this website. Now in my continued playing with new paint I decided to use one of those fancier brushes to draw a blurry chicken.
The image captures the feelings of the artist and the complexities of depth that the piece reflects. The varying shades of the brush strokes reflect the various facets of the character. The lack of defined color on the left side, the chicken's head, shows the undefined state of the future, while the frayed tail feathers show that the past is something that can be left to the wayside. What really matters is the present.

New Computer

Well, the dark day has arrived. I now own a new computer. As such I am now forced to use the Windows 7 version of paint if I want to work on it.

Oh wait. It looks the same.
Only real problem is that I can't use the brush anymore since it is semi transparent. I liked the cross-hair-ish thing it had before. It was like a preview before you actually made your mark. They added width options to pencil though so I can just use that instead. Of course I still have my laptop too so it's hardly a big deal. I was hoping that among its "features" would be a better text tool, as that was something I would have been likely to use immediately. I'm sure I'll do something with things in it at some point, but we'll see.

Five is the grittiest number since the number e. Which is of course 2.7 something and goes on forever. It's like Pi but it's name is less Greek. You know, a real tough guy. Remember that the square of 5 contains 5, because 5*5=25.

This one an save as a PNG(and send that as an email. Can't post as a PNG from the iPod) Free version can only do 32x32. It's a very straight pixel by pixel image editor. Nice.
October 28, 2011

This guy is slick. You can tell because he jelled down his comb and wattle. I made him because I figured I may as well balance out the out of control combs I've had lately.

Also what do you think of that little green muffler thing.

Google Docs Drawing

I was messing about on the computer and I noticed that the Google Docs had a drawings thing, and well, who am I to pass up Google's art program. I was initially confused by the lack of pen, but it had line so I dealt with it. Only after finishing did I notice the "scribble" option, so maybe I'll put out another of these at some point in the future. Also check out that tie.

Gay Chicken

Two manly chickens draw closer to one another. Neither willing to budge. After all the one who backed off was a wimp. And if neither backed off then they were making out. I blame Manly Men Doing Manly Things for putting this stupid 'game' on my mind. Anyways the word "Chicken" was in it so it was a bit hard to tell myself not to do it. Though I definitely have to have two chickens driving off a cliff.

3... 2... 1... 4...

Wait, no, that's not how you count down to blast off.

Rest of Grit

I'm sorry. This picture is just an excuse for the terrible titular pun.

ArtStudio Lite

Pretty good except it's a bit too feature heavy for me. The opposite of my earlier problem. The inability to save in a lossless format is intrinsic to the iPod so it is unlikely I'll get around that. This is pretty much Photoshop caliber as far as the program goes.
Also, if I do find one of these that I actually like I'll probably need to make an extra tag for it specifically.

Draw 4 Free

I have an iPod so I want to draw on it as well as my computer. So I will be trying out some apps. First draw 4 free.

It's not bad, but could use some features besides variable size pencil with rather limited color options.
October 14, 2011

I made a princess, by which I mean I made a lady chicken wearing some pink. Feel impressed. It is the request of royalty.

Like I said. I wanted the next picture to be happy, but for some reason my attempts to draw happy turned into scrawling images that make no sense. So here's a cute guy jumping in front of a rainbow. Pretty much as generically happy as you can get I'd say. Well, without involving princesses and small children and what have you.

He has been drained of all life. If he ever regains himself he still won't be more than a shell of his former self.

A mockery of life floating in the wind.

I've had enough over dramatic bits. The next one will be bright and... fluffy.

Peering Out from the Darkness

Peering out from the darkness, he is a hidden warrior of infinite prowess. You have seen him once and will likely never see his face again.

And if I could get this thing to display animated GIFs you really would only see him for a moment.

Spiral of Despair

Falling into an endless spiral of despair. The darkness rises and there is no hope of a recovery. With each shimmer of hope leading only to more despair. Each uncertain motion leading to more despair. Each step up a fall down.  But still, his eyes shine bright.

Space Chicken Logo

I'm apparently playing fantasy football now, so I decided to name my team the Space Chickens. Here's the team logo. It's like my old Space Chicken because it's green, but is otherwise completely different. Of course it's not a full body or anything, since it's a logo.

Just A Man

In the past he fought so hard so many times.
Showed the world that he was a true hero.
In the times past he passed into urban legend.
So in the here and now he is just a man.
And that's all he ever really wanted.
